10 Days of Foundation Day 5: bareMinerals

If you’ve been following, I decided to do 10 days of foundation testing with 10 samples I got from Sephora. Read my introduction post to get all the details on what I’ll be trying and check out the previous posts, Fenty, Sephora Collection, Dior and Laura Mercier.

For day five, I tried the bareMinerals Original Foundation ($29). I think I tried bareMinerals once when I was in middle school and was underwhelmed with its performance. It’s a highly promoted product for people with acne but I could never understand how a powder would make me look better and wouldn’t just cling to every blemish and dry patch.

I am pretty confused about this sample. I don’t know how you put powder into something flat like this, but I imagine it has to alter its performance, right? I could tell there was product there, and that it was transferring to my skin, but it did not cover my blemishes the way people claim. Maybe there wasn’t enough in the sample, I don’t know. It looked like there was a slight veil, but definitely not anything spectacular. And can you cover dark circles with concealer over powder? I’d say no. Powder foundation just confuses me.

I’m also not sure if this was from the product or the brush I used, but my face felt a little strange and kind of itchy afterwards. I left it on for as long as I could, but eventually I  had to wash it off. I didn’t want to get a rash, which would not be uncommon for me.

So this was a flop for me. But I’d be interested in hearing from people who swear by this product. Sound off in the comments below if you’ve got thoughts!
